History of Chineham

Whilst the current parish was established in 1986, the manor is much older and was first recorded in the Domesday Book as Chineham in Basingestoch Hundred – Hantescire in 1086.

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Chineham like this:

"CHINEHAM, a tything in Monk-Sherborne parish, Hants; 1 mile NE of Basingstoke. Acres, 520. Real property, with West Sherborne, £3, 717. Pop., 34."
