Christ Church Chineham – April 2021
Easter services and events: Whilst churches were legally permitted to continue holding public worship, Christ Church took the decision to remain with online streaming until things were more settled and there was greater confidence within the church family. With the news becoming more optimistic by the day we are pleased to say that on Easter Sunday, 4th April we will be welcoming people into the building for worship on this most important day in the Christian calendar. We may then revert to online only for the remainder of April, with - if all goes according to plan - a permanent resumption from the start of May. We do need to ask anyone planning to come along on Easter Sunday to book in advance, so that we know we can safely accommodate everyone. The service will also be streamed on our YouTube channel, https://youtube.com/c/ChristChurchChineham. And you can find all previous services too. After our service we have a 30 minute live Zoom session where we can all catch up with each other over a cup of coffee. We have also got special events planned for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday – see Easter events flyer. For all enquiries we have a Facebook page, a website with lots of information about our church, or you can contact the church office (all details are given at the end of this article).
Prayer requests: is there someone or something you would like us to pray for? We have a prayer team who are ready to respond to all requests in complete confidence. Contact us by one of the methods below.
Improvements to car park and lighting: We were very excited to receive a substantial grant from Basingstoke and Deane Council late last year which has enabled us to embark on two major projects, one of which is to provide hard standing to two areas of the car park which were nothing but loose gravel and earth and which was prone to puddling and erosion. This work has just been completed and has enhanced the look of the outside areas no end and provide more usable space. The other project was for replacement of the interior lighting with LED, energy efficient types that will enhance the interior of the church and be more reliable and pleasant for everyone using the building.
Sparklers Baby and Toddler Group: Our twice weekly group for bumps, babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their parents and carers is on hold but we have been able to run smaller group sessions by invitation only for just a few families who have special requirements. We take all necessary steps to ensure both adults and children are safe whilst they enjoy the fun and support that these sessions provide and each session incorporates play, craft, stories and action rhyme time. As soon as we can resume “open to all” sessions, we will let you know. In the meantime if you want to contact our Sparklers leader you can do so on 07581 373123, or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hire of community facilities: We provide a range of rooms, both small and large and have special rates to community groups. Call me on 01256 474280 or email email@example.com for up to date information. We are beginning to contact our regular groups about resuming their sessions here at the church and new enquiries are starting to come in slowly but surely.
Charity collections: we continue to collect stamps (new and used), old biros and marker pens, postcards, spectacles, and tops from supermarket milk bottles for charity. Please note we no longer collect batteries or foil – however most supermarkets have collecting facilities for batteries.
