Popley Park work nearing completion
Major improvement work at Popley Community Park is taking shape and set to be ready for Easter. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has already upgraded the children’s play area with new equipment in separate zones for toddlers and juniors.
A new teen zone is due to open on Monday 29 March, subject to government restrictions, and this will include an exciting Parkour course for running, jumping and climbing over obstacles. An outdoor fitness circuit is also being installed this month and should be ready for use by the Easter holidays. New perimeter fencing on the park’s northern boundary, together with flower and hedge planting, is also under way and set to be completed by the end of March.
In addition, the overflow car park area will be resurfaced along with footpath improvements and new seating at the park and should be completed by mid-April. The existing parking area remains open for visitors to use. The improved facilities at the community park in Popley Way are being carried out by the borough council with £400,000 funding from developers’ contributions after a public consultation survey sought the views of local people.
