U3A Update

Our Activities open up for the Summer

Our activities are beginning to surface again, as the warmer weather allows us to come together outside. Walking football has started, with Rounders and Netball groups following late June or beginning of July. The Gardening and Strings & Things (musical group) are meeting again.

Many of our indoor activities have relied on Zoom meetings over the past year - even our gardeners have continued to share ideas. Arts, Crafts and Creative Writing Groups have continued to talk about their work; French, German and Spanish language lessons have carried on; and History, Science & Technology, Philosophy and Environment Groups have all organised discussions and speakers. Holiday planning and days out continue, and line dancing has re-started.

Our Meet and Greet Day

Don’t forget our membership fee of £7.50 allows you to take part in as many of these activities as you want, through to the end of August. You can sign up through our website, or ring 07787 520 281 if you’re not on-line. If you’d like to meet some of us in person before you decide to become a member, we’re planning a Meet and Greet Day on September 8th (pandemic allowing). There you’ll be able to talk to the different group leaders and learn more about their activities - hopefully even our ‘Cooking for Men’ Group will be meeting by then! More details to follow, but you might like to pop the date in your diary.

Picnics are Planned

Our separate groups meet for their regular activities, but all members can come together once a month for a meeting with a speaker. Again, we’ve resorted to Zoom for these over the past year, and they’ve been very popular - especially with Henry VIII! But as face to face is better, weather permitting, we’re working with the local council on a couple of ‘picnics in the park’ during August. These will be for members on either side of town, so you may spot us in Stratton Park or Popley Fields and want to say hello. Once we’re into autumn, and it’s safe, the monthly meetings will be held centrally in Queen Mary’s College.
